Bead Finish and Coloring Terms Explained

Opaque:
|
Bead is not transparent.
|

Iridescent:
|
Same as Rainbow or Aurora Borealis (AB). Surface treatment gives a rainbow finish.

|
Luster:
|
A shiny white or color finish on the surface of an opaque bead.
|
|
Ceylon:
|
A lustered finish on Transparent beads that gives a pearlized effect.
|
|
Gold Luster:
|
A gold finish that creates a subtle gold highlight on the bead.
|
|
Matte:
|
A frosted surface with very rich, deep colors.
|
|
Dyed:
|
Transparent beads that have been dyed. These may fade with extended exposure to sunlight, or excessive rubbing.

|
Color Lined:
|
Transparent beads that have had an opaque color applied to the inside of the bead. Also called "Inside Color".

|
Galvanized:
|
Beads are plated with zinc. If rubbed hard, the color may rub off.
|
|
Metallic:
|
Beads are heated and treated with oxidized tin.
|
|
Silver or Gold Metallic:
|
Beads are heated and treated with gold or silver, creating a very bright finish.
|
|
Silver Lined:
|
Transparent beads that have been lined with silver. A very sparkly look.
|
|
Bronze:
|
Beads are coated with gold and other materials and then heated.
|
